Not all ‘great’ musicians are ‘great’ at weddings

Not all ‘great’ musicians are ‘great’ at weddings. Experience really does matter if you want your wedding music to flow smoothly and compliment the action. Experience usually comes at a premium and it is only natural to want to save money on your wedding. But when you hire a musician with little or no wedding experience, a beginning musician, or a friend who will play for free, there is a trade-off. You’ll save money but you won’t know if they can pull off what is in fact a very demanding ‘gig’ until you hear them perform at your wedding.

Inexperienced musicians will need to be instructed on all sorts of things, from knowing what to play and when to play it, to how to dress and when to liaise with venue staff. Worst of all they might struggle or stop while playing your ceremony music due to nerves or under-rehearsal. It is painful to watch this happen and it is the last thing you want at your wedding.

When you’re shopping for wedding services you pay for experience so that your wedding day will be trouble-free. You’ve got enough on your mind without needing to tell the celebrant how to put together a wedding ceremony, the florist where to place the flowers or the musician how to follow cues. Professionals will know what to do, and they will work together as a team.
